So getting back to the review. I’m reviewing a sunblock which claims to be matte, protects from the sun as well as lightens skin (which I don’t support in any way FYI). So how well or how bad was it for me? Read on to know more!
Name – Lotus Herbals Safe Sun 3-in-1 Matte Look Daily Sunblock with PA+++, SPF 40 and UVA, UVB protection
Price – Rs.245 for 50gm (Bigger sizes available)
Claims – Safe Sun 3-in-1 Daily Sunblock is a revolutionary sun protection formulation which combines broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection with skin lightening ingredients to give a uniform matte finish to the skin. Its fast absorption and non-greasy formula ensures a shine-free, light and clean feel.
Directions – Apply liberally and evenly on face and exposed parts of the body (neck, arms, legs, etc.) before exposure to sun. Reapply frequently.
My take on Lotus Herbals Safe Sun 3-in-1 Matte Look Daily Sunblock
The product comes in a standard Lotus Herbals packaging of an orange coloured tube with a flip top to disperse the product. The sunscreen itself is cream based and looks almost a dull orange brown in the tube.
It has a fragrant chemical – cosmetics smell which is difficult to explain. The cream is not very thick and has a consistency slightly thicker than that of a normal lotion. But this could also be because of the extreme heat here in Hyderabad (Temperature here has risen above 40). It spreads pretty easily and doesn’t leave any cast on the skin. It takes about 2-3 minutes to absorb well into the skin. I apply it about 15 minutes before I leave the house because that’s the ideal time to wait before stepping out after applying your sunscreen since the product has had enough time to interact with the skin. (On a side note, do let me know if you’d like to see a blog post on summer tips and hacks where I can talk about all the little yet important things to keep in mind in summer!)
The tint in the product very light, but it can leave a cast on people with deeper skin tones. So for people with very deep skin tone, this might not be the best product. The sunscreen performs well. I have dry to combination skin and I found that even though it made my skin appear matte, I could see beads of sweat after about 1-1.5 hours, which was fine for me since I tend to sweat a lot! I couldn’t notice any oiliness though up to after about 3 hours of application, which is okay since you NEED to reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours anyway for it to stay effective.
It doesn’t feel sticky or greasy in any way and feels light on the skin. I mix it in with my Nivea body milk a few times to cut down on time and it doesn’t feel heavy then as well. The coverage is sheer to really minimal. It makes the skin matte as promised but covers up close to nothing. It just makes the skin look less dull.

- Has a slight fragrance, so might not be suitable for sensitive skin
Overall rating – 4/5
All in all, I think it is a good sunscreen. It lives up to its claims (I didn’t test out the skin lightening claim because I don’t support that). It is a good deal for the price and is worth the money!
